We've spent winter holidays in Key West, Florida for decades, ever since my dad was stationed at the Navy sub base. (I may have been conceived there, but I didn't press my parents for the details.) Often we'd start with breakfast at the Southernmost Beach Cafe on the Atlantic, then spend the day gradually wandering up Duval Street toward a Mallory Square sunset on the Caribbean. Coffee, ice cream, souvenirs, conch fritters, teeshirts, hurricanes, all-you-can-eat seafood, margaritas, and then, right on time, looking for the green flash in the setting sun, applauding with 100s (1000s?) of honorary "Conchs." Come wander through over three dozen photospheres, one for every Duval Street cross street intersection, during the 2021 Key West Food & Wine Festival! We'll point out some of our favorite spots (not all on Duval): Banana Cafe, Louie's Backyard, Conch Republic, Harpoon Harry's, Finnegan's, Hurrican Hole, Orchid Key Inn, and (or course) Sunset Pier! Along the way, we'll also discuss the impact of Covid-19 on restaurants and the ways in which they are adapting.
This informal online meetup in social virtual reality is unaffiliated with the Key West Food & Wine Festival, but we hope you attend and pop in to tell us about the fun you had!
